Aerolineas Argentinas: Inaugural Flight of the fourth Boeing 737 MAX- 8

Last Tuesday March 6th 2018 I had the privilege of participating in the inaugural flight of the fourth Boeing 737MAX-8 of Aerolineas Argentinas.

As being an ARPlus Gold Member, the company invited me to this unique experience, which I shared with seven other members and with Alejandra, who works in the frequent passenger program of our beloved Aerolíneas Argentinas.

AR, as it’s also known, for the Argentines it’s a pride, the representation of our national flag in the skies around our country and the world, connecting us to shorten distances in our big country and of course, connecting with USA, Europe and Latin America.

Walking towards the Boeing 737-MAX8, registration LV – HKV, at Aeroparque Metropolitano Jorge Newbery

We met at the Aeroparque Metropolitano Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires at 06:00 am (the city airport, from where operate Domestic and Neighboring countries flights)

Flight AR 1536 took off at 07:53 a.m. from Aeroparque and landed in the city of Mendoza at exactly 09:26 a.m., where the two fire engines were waiting for us to receive us with the water arches and the expected baptism.

The baptism took shape with the water outside the aircraft and with an endless applause inside it.

Minutes before the landing, the Captain announced about the baptism. I could see the surprise faces of the passengers, who most of them probably did not know that this flight was the first commercial flight of this Boeing 737MAX-8, registration LV-HKV.

About this plane

This Boeing 737MAX-8 had arrived from the factory in Seattle, USA on Sunday 25th February. Ten days later it started the commercial flights.

After landing at Mendoza Airport

Mendoza, the land of wine, is an excellent destination to begin the connection of Argentinean and foreign visitors around Argentina and neighboring countries.

Although I do not understand much about aeronautical technology, I do love airplanes and the feeling of flying, so I will comment on what I felt traveling in a MAX.

The Captain explained that it has the latest technology in CFM International LEAP-1B engines. Really a silent engine, even knowing you are flying, you don’t fell noises. More ecological and saves fuel, the perfect combination.

Aerolineas Argentinas configured the plane with 8 seats in Club Economy and 162 seats in Coach Class.

Club Economy
Coach Class

We travel in a comfortable Coach Class, gray leather seats, each one with USB connection. In addition to a LED lighting system that changes colors according to the time of day (known as mood lighting).

All the 737 MAX of Aerolineas Argentinas offer the BRAVO entertainment system, which is accessed through Wi-Fi with our electronic devices (cellular, Tablet, notebook). Basically there are no screens, following the worldwide trend in single-aisle aircraft.

It was an impeccable flight, in every way. Attentive crew, who feel passion for their work and their love for Aerolineas Argentinas, were very happy for this new plane. We had the opportunity to talk with them a few minutes.

Activities after landing

Together with the crew, this group of travelers participated in the press conference at the Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport, better known as “El Plumerillo”.

The plane and the crew left for Buenos Aires around 11:00 am.

Our day continued with a visit to the Ruca Malen vineyard, knowing its facilities, with a detailed explanation of its production. And later, we tasted a seven-step menu in an awarded restaurant of the vineyard.

At 6:30 p.m. we returned to Buenos Aires on flight AR1467, this time on a Boeing 737-800, another excellent trip.

In my Twitter account @ViajarSiempre in the following days I will upload videos of the landing and of course the baptism.

Thank you very much Aerolineas Argentinas for the unforgettable experience!!!
